Greetings from Tempe, AZ, a hangout for me back when I was with Weary Hearts. I’m here in advance of our appearance at the 35th annual Wickenburg Bluegrass Festival, a festival I also played as a Weary Hearts member.
I arrived a day early to try to get over jet lag; I flew here straight from Aberdeen, Scotland, where I’ll be spending some time off and on over the next school year while my wife Sally works on her phD there.
At left is a photo from the Aberdeen Music Hall, where I’m posing with my friend and “cousin” George Hamilton V of Viva Nashvegas fame. George was filling in for his dad, George Hamilton IV, in a revue show honouring George and Patsy Cline. Superb Irish singer Sandy Kelly starred as Patsy Cline. Goerge Hamilton IV has many fans in Scotland, and his presence was strongly felt through his music that night. I was particularly moved when George V and Sandy sang George’s “We Will Meet Again” during the encore.
Things are rolling along for our new live album “Live at the Old Feed Store.” It was recently in the top 5 of Airplay Direct‘s bluegrass and folk downloads. We also debuted on the Bluegrass Today chart with our current single “Battle of the Bands.”
Speaking of George Hamilton V, here’s a clip from our recent appearance on George’s Viva NashVegas Radio Show. Now I’d better run; I’m about to be kicked out of the Tempe bar where I’m writing this update!
