I’m a couple of days late on this blog update, so I’m rewarding you with a video, the first of a few I’ll post from our recent road trip.
I have a lot of news, so I’ll try to remember it all. First of all, our new single, “Lonely Comes Easy” is a week old and is already getting strong airplay around the country. The full CD goes out to radio this coming week and will be officially released to the public on August 27th.
I’m just in from a mere 3400 mile journey that began in Nashville, TN and ended in northern Alberta. It was a family and business road trip, and it was big fun. We listened to all of Huckleberry Finn through Missouri and Nebraska, my daughter and I learned all the lyrics to C.W. McCall’s “Classified” (no, we will not be working that up in the band), and we learned to say “I’m Belgian” in French (we did this strictly for the benefit of our Dutch friends.) Somewhere in there (Montana and Washington) I played a couple of shows with the Night Drivers. The video clip is from the 5 Suns Bluegrass Festival in Moses Lake, WA
We’ve added new tour dates including one in eastern Pennsylvania the weekend before IBMA World of Bluegrass. Looks like a good place to stop on your way to Raleigh. Next up for me is a 3-day Shady Grove Festival in Nanton, Alberta that I’ll be playing as a duo with my wife Sally. A band I had the pleasure of filling in with earlier this year, John Reischman and the Jaybirds will also be there. Then it’s on to Mammoth Lake, CA with The Night Drivers for the Labour Day weekend.
I’ve posted pictures from the recent road trip on Facebook, if you want to check them out.
My Bluegrass Today column this week makes a controversial suggestion: Avoid controversy on stage.
My classic bluegrass show on Sirius XM’s Bluegrass Junction, “Truegrass” will feature, in addition to a range of bluegrass classics, some music of Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family, to commemorate the anniversary of their first recording sessions in Bristol TN/VA in 1927. “Truegrass” aired on Friday, but you can catch the replay Sunday at 6:00 PM eastern.
That’s all for now. More videos coming soon. So long from The Northern Studio
